“Cat Art Market Roppongi” for Cat Day

Featuring “Dayan the Cat,” works by Tsuchiya from the comedy duo Knights, and Wajima lacquerware cat art from Noto!

Kou Productions LLC (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Yoshiko Sugigara) is pleased to announce the ‘Cat Art Market Roppongi,’ which will be held from Tuesday, February 20 to Monday, February 26, 2024, at Roppongi Stripe Space (5-10-33 Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo). This event celebrates Cat Day on February 22, showcasing a wide variety of cat-themed art to provide visitors with joy and healing.

The event will feature approximately 80 cat art creators, including painters, illustrators, AI artists, manga artists, anime creators, sumi-e painters, and craftsmen, as well as renowned cat-loving celebrities. Among the notable exhibitors are Akiko Ikeda, the beloved picture book author known for the ‘Dayan the Cat’ series; Hidetoshi Omori, a legendary anime director famous for his work on ‘Gundam’; and Shoko Nakajima, the popular artist behind ‘Fairy Cats.’

In addition, the event will include gallery talks and workshops where visitors can interact directly with the artists and experience the artworks firsthand. A particular highlight is the display of a rare ‘Wajima Lacquer Chinkin Cat’ artwork by Koji Itaya, preserved intact after the Noto Peninsula earthquake. Proceeds from the sale of postcards featuring this artwork will be donated to support Wajima lacquerware artisans.

The event is free of charge and open to everyone. It offers a unique opportunity to experience the diverse world of cat art in Roppongi, a hub of artistic expression. Additionally, Inaba Pet Food Co., Ltd. will provide gifts to the first 1,000 visitors, so we encourage you to attend.
